2008 Directions

I'm looking for work. If anyone knows of a good Wellington based position for an information designer slash programmer slash writer with 10 years experience building HTML and CSS websites and 6 years experience programming, with an intricate understanding of PHP, Java, Ruby, Javascript, an iconoclastic observer of the sociology and philosophy of computer languages, and an unbridled passion for typography, history, and literature, please email me.

Aside from earning bread, the main goals I have for 2008 are focused on killing my laziness and procrastination and swinging back towards my artistic and literary interests:

  • Read less blogs. Read more books.
  • Write a book. My writing is getting lazy from an overload of pithy internet garbage and far too much improvisation and freestyling lyrics, and never writing anything down. I need to focus on larger, more challenging structures and deeper narratives. Working on my first book is the best way I can think of to improve my writing skills.
  • Record more music. Goes without saying. Over the past year, too many musicians have heard me rapping at parties or talking random rhythmical smack in the street, and have asked me to jam with them, put some vocals over their stuff. So far, I haven't gotten around to doing anything.
  • Release my game. Everyone who has seen it thus far loves the concept. It needs to surface, but it's growing too big for me to handle on my own. I had some stuff secretly online last year, but pulled it down because it didn't do justice to the world that it could be. As part of this, I'm planning to apply for the Artists to Antarctica programme. This of course, ties in perfectly with the goals of doing more writing and music. If you can help me get it online sooner rather than later, I'd really like to hear from you.

There are plenty of other side projects and research experiments I've got on the go, but I'll probably save them for times when I need fresh things to play with and write about here. In the meantime, this seems more than enough to be working on.
